The vehicle chassis is subjected to high loads while driving, particularly due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes significant twisting and bending of the chassis, or deformation of the body, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
