The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is mainly due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in greater chassis flex as well as body twisting and deformation, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis flexing and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
