The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest stress as a result of the way the vehicle is driven. This applies particularly when transferring the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or sudden acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more load than the other. This results in significant bending and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
