The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and hard acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to as much as three times more force than the other. This leads to considerable chassis flexing or deformation and torsion of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
