A car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly true when the vehicle’s body weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
When driving through corners, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This results in significant chassis twisting and deformation, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
