The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in major deformation, twisting and bending of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
