The vehicle’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, hard braking or acceleration.
When driving through corners, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. The result is significant chassis flex, or deformation and torsion of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
