The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. Significant loads occur mainly due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes severe bending, deformation and twisting of the chassis, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while driving through a corner can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
