The car’s chassis is the part exposed to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, hard braking or hard acceleration.

In some cases, the transfer of mass in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.

Deformation and twisting of the chassis in corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
