A car’s suspension is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during spirited driving. Weight transfer through the body during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration contributes significantly to this.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to experience up to three times more load than the other. This causes significant deformation and twisting of the body, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis in corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
