The car’s suspension is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly true because of the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more heavily than the other. This results in greater loads on the suspension, flexing and twisting of the body and consequently poorer tyre grip.
Deformation and twisting of the body during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
