A car’s suspension is the part of the vehicle subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, hard braking or acceleration.

In certain situations, weight transfer when driving through a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in significant suspension flex as well as body deformation and torsional twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.

Suspension deformation and flexing when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
