The vehicle body is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or decisive acceleration.
In certain cases, weight transfer while cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant bending and twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Flexing and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
