A car’s suspension is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of weight when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to experience up to three times more load than the other. This causes pronounced twisting of the suspension or deformation of the bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Twisting and deformation of the suspension while cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
