The vehicle body is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.

When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to 3 times more force than the other. This results in greater twisting and bending of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.

Twisting and deformation of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
