A car’s suspension is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly true due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
