The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In certain situations, weight transfer while cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in greater deformation and twisting of the chassis, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
