The car body is the part of the vehicle subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. The result is significant deformation and twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
