A car’s suspension is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, hard braking or sudden acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This results in significant bending and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Bending and twisting of the chassis in corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
