The car body shell is the part subjected to the greatest stress as a result of driving conditions. This is particularly evident during weight transfer under fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.

In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes significant twisting and deformation of the body shell, resulting in the tyres losing grip.

Deformation and twisting of the body shell when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
