The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.

When cornering, the transfer of weight can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. The result is significant flexing and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.

Deformation and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
