The vehicle chassis is subjected to significant loads while driving, particularly due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to loads up to three times greater than the other. This results in greater deformation and twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis twisting and deformation during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
