The car body is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, load transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in significant bending and torsional deformation of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis in corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
