A car’s suspension is exposed to the greatest loads while driving, particularly due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, up to three times more force can be transferred to one side of the vehicle than to the other. This causes twisting and deformation of the body, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Twisting and deformation of the suspension during cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
