The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest stress due to the driver’s driving style. This is primarily caused by the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.

In some cases, the transfer of mass when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant chassis twisting, body deformation and loss of tyre grip.

Chassis deformation and twisting when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
