The car’s chassis is the part of the vehicle subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in greater loads on the chassis, body flex and consequently a loss of tyre grip.
Chassis flex and deformation when cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
