The vehicle’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or sudden acceleration.
In some cases, mass transfer while driving through a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant twisting and deformation of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while driving through a corner can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
