In certain situations, the transfer of weight in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while driving through a corner can cause unwanted handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
