A car’s suspension is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly true because of the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.

In certain cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This leads to significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.

Deformation and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
