The car body is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight when cornering at high speed, braking hard or accelerating.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
