The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in greater chassis flex, bodywork deformation and loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and flex in corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
