The car’s chassis is the part of the vehicle that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or sharp acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
