The vehicle’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly affected by the transfer of the body’s mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
When driving through a corner, the transfer of mass can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant bending, deformation and twisting of the chassis, resulting in a loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting when driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
