The vehicle chassis is one of the most heavily loaded components, as it is affected by transfers of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, the load on one side of the vehicle can be up to three times greater than on the other side. This causes the chassis to flex and the body to deform and twist torsionally, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
