A vehicle’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes considerable chassis flexing or body deformation, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
