A vehicle’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In certain situations, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This can cause significant chassis flex or body deformation, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flex when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
