FMINDK52 is a Forge Motorsport cold air intake system for 1.0 TSI engines from 2022 onwards, fitted to numerous vehicles from Volkswagen, Audi, Škoda and SEAT. Following the success of the FMINDK30 and FMINDK39 intake kits for the previous generation of VAG 1.0 TSI engines, this system was developed as an upgrade for the latest VAG powertrain.
As manufacturers seek greater performance and improved efficiency from smaller engines, there is very little scope for improving the original system. Nevertheless, through extensive testing, Forge Motorsport has developed a product that delivers improvements over the original airbox.
The heat shield, designed using a CAD model, laser-cut and precisely folded, creates a barrier between the intake pipe and the engine’s radiant heat. At the same time, it directs cold air to the air filter and helps maintain a low intake air temperature. The product is finished with a black textured powder coating, providing an original equipment-style appearance and quality.
The kit includes a Forge Motorsport high-flow pleated filter made from synthetic nanofibres. The filter is designed with the optimum size and fit for the available space, providing good airflow and filtration for more efficient breathing from the 1.0 turbo engine. A foam filter version, manufactured for Forge Motorsport by Pipercross, is also available. During dynamometer testing, the differences between the two filter options were almost negligible throughout the entire rev range. Both filters can be oiled to prevent fine dust from entering the intake pipe, which is particularly useful in hot and dusty environments.
Testing was carried out at Performance Remap in Gloucester using their VTEC 4 wheel drive dynamometer, ensuring that the data was obtained as accurately and independently as possible.
Dynamometer measurements show an increase in torque from 2600 rpm to the redline, with an increase of almost 10 Nm recorded between 3000 rpm and 3500 rpm. Torque remains consistently higher than with the standard system from the start of turbo spool-up until full boost pressure is reached, contributing to sharper acceleration.
The Forge Motorsport FMINDK52 intake system kit includes the required mounting hardware and detailed installation instructions. Basic garage tools are sufficient for installation, which takes approximately a few hours.
