The Forge Motorsport FMTUBL5 heat shield is designed for turbo versions of the Fiat 500, 595 and 695 with a Garrett turbocharger. Its purpose is to insulate the radiant heat generated during turbocharger operation. The construction is intended for use in demanding conditions and has been tested to withstand radiant heat temperatures of up to 2500 °F (1370 °C), helping to protect and extend the service life of engine components.
The design retains exhaust heat in the hot side of the turbocharger and directs it away from the cold side and intake path. This can help reduce turbo lag and intake air temperature, which according to the manufacturer can contribute to increased power.
After the first few heat cycles, the heat shield will lose some of its flexibility as the material hardens. Once fitted, therefore, do not remove it, as this could damage the shield.
