GFB DV+ for GM applications
The GFB DV+ solution is simple: keep what works and replace what represents a weak point.
- Retains the factory solenoid for seamless integration.
- Replaces the plastic valve components with metal ones for greater reliability and strength, as well as reliable retention of high boost pressure.
- Direct replacement with improved valve response thanks to the advantages of the GFB TMS system.
- Exclusive pilot-actuated valve mechanism for very fast valve response.
GFB has expanded its DV+ range with a direct diverter valve upgrade for GM vehicles with the 2.0 LTG engine.
The factory solenoid is high quality, so it does not need to be replaced during the upgrade. The weak point is the valve mechanism itself. GFB DV+ solves this issue with an anodised cast aluminium housing and a brass piston manufactured to precise tolerances.
The solenoid in the DV+ assembly no longer moves the piston directly; instead, it controls its movement using boost pressure. This is known as pilot operation, which significantly increases the forces available to activate the valve and improves operating speed and reliability. The piston can now move progressively according to the amount of boost pressure it needs to bleed off, rather than always simply opening or closing fully as with the factory diverter valve.
The result is sharper throttle response, very fast valve activation and reliable operation even at high boost pressure.
Other products replace the entire diverter valve and solenoid, which means a considerably higher price. Some replace only the valve inside the factory solenoid, but do not use a pilot-actuation system. This does not solve the factory diverter valve’s response issues, and the valve may be slower and more prone to sticking.
GFB DV+ is more responsive and uses pilot actuation, while also preventing compressor surge, turbocharger flutter or the characteristic “chirping” sound – these noises indicate that the diverter valve is not operating correctly.
The DV+ story: improved performance and greater reliability
The GM 2.0 LTG engine uses a solenoid-operated diverter valve controlled by the engine control unit. Such valves are common in modern turbocharged engines, but they still have significant shortcomings in terms of reliability and operation.
Problem 1: leaks
The factory diverter valve uses a piston which cannot be effectively sealed because of its moulded plastic construction. This results in leaks large enough to cause slower turbocharger spool-up and a drop in boost pressure at high engine speeds.
DV+ ensures that boost pressure reaches the engine with a bonded silicone seal, precisely defined clearance between the piston and bore, and high-quality surface finishing.
Problem 2: reliability
With the factory diverter valve, the solenoid must move the piston through a long stroke, which significantly reduces the magnetic force available to open the piston. This requires a weak return spring, leaving little reserve to accommodate increased boost pressure or friction in the valve assembly. The result can be sticking and reliability issues.
The same issues also occur with other replacement products that retain the factory solenoid and continue to move the piston directly through a long stroke.
DV+ solves this by using the solenoid to control a short-stroke pilot valve for very fast response and greater activation forces. The pilot valve uses boost pressure to open and close the piston. The operating forces are therefore directly proportional to boost pressure, while piston movement can adjust accordingly. At low boost pressure, the piston opens only slightly, while at high boost pressure it opens fully. When the solenoid switches off, boost pressure quickly closes the piston. In this way, DV+ prevents sticking caused by friction and weak solenoid forces, and prevents opening at high boost pressure.
GFB DV+ is a high-performance diverter valve upgrade with improved response, better operation and greater reliability.
