DV+ T9366 for Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.0 and BMW X5M/X6M

2 valves are required for BMW X5M/X6M.

The simple GFB DV+ solution: keep what works and replace what does not

  • Uses the original solenoid coil for seamless integration with the factory system.
  • Replaces the plastic valve components with metal ones, improving reliability and strength, especially on modified engines.
  • Direct replacement for the original valve with the benefits of the GFB TMS system.
  • Unique pilot-actuated mechanism for fast response at high boost pressure.

GFB has expanded its DV+ valve range with a direct-fit solution for the weaker factory diverter valve used in many European vehicles.

The original solenoid coil is effective – the control unit opens it faster than any pneumatic valve, so replacing it makes no sense. The weak point is the valve mechanism. GFB DV+ solves this issue with an anodised, machined aluminium housing and a precision-tolerance brass piston.

The result is improved throttle response, very fast valve operation and the ability to hold high boost pressure. With other solutions, the entire system must be replaced with a conventional pneumatic valve or a separate solenoid valve must be added. This means higher costs and additional parts, in some cases including long vacuum hoses and brackets. Such solutions can be slower, less responsive, more expensive and more difficult to install.

GFB DV+ is therefore more responsive, easier to install and does not cause compressor surge or “turbo flutter”. It also does not require different springs or frequent servicing.

Improved performance and faster boost pressure recovery

The DV+ story: improved performance and greater reliability

Many newer European cars use solenoid-controlled diverter valves operated by the control unit. This is an effective design, as the valve responds very quickly and opens only when required.

However, the following issues can occur with these valves:

  • The diaphragms are weak and can split, especially after increasing boost pressure. When this happens, the valve can no longer hold boost pressure.
  • The plastic edge around the diaphragm is very thin, so parts of it can break off and potentially pass through the turbocharger.

In addition, the solenoid valve of the original diverter valve is directly connected to the valve mechanism. This is not optimal, as neither the solenoid nor the return spring is powerful enough to open and close the valve reliably at high boost pressure.

GFB took a different approach and developed a solution that eliminates the existing problems and improves performance without unnecessary complexity. The original solenoid coil remains in place, so DV+ retains the benefits of the factory system. The metal parts of the valve mechanism provide greater strength and reliability regardless of the boost pressure used.

Instead of directly controlling the piston with the solenoid coil, the pilot-actuation system uses the coil to control airflow through a small passage. This then opens and closes the piston. The valve therefore opens and closes reliably even at high boost pressure, without exceeding the capacity of the original solenoid coil.

This design also improves the operation of the factory system, as the valve opens progressively according to boost pressure and only as much as necessary. The factory valve simply opens or closes and cannot open partially at lower boost pressure, which affects throttle response.
