DV+ T9351 – DIVERTER VALVE
GFB DV+ is a direct replacement for the weaker factory diverter valve used in numerous European vehicles.
- Retains the original electromagnetic coil for seamless integration with the factory system.
- Replaces the valve’s plastic parts with metal components for greater strength and reliability, including on engines with a software upgrade.
- Direct installation with the features of the GFB TMS system.
- Exclusive pilot-controlled mechanism for fast response at high boost pressure.
The original electromagnetic coil is effective because the engine control unit opens it faster than a pneumatic valve. The weak point of the factory valve is its mechanism. DV+ therefore replaces only the valve components with a solid anodised aluminium housing and a brass piston, manufactured to precise tolerances.
The result is sharper throttle response, very fast valve operation and reliable retention of boost pressure.
Solutions from other manufacturers often replace the entire system with a conventional pneumatic valve. This requires longer vacuum hoses, additional connections to the intake manifold vacuum, and a different solenoid valve or resistor for connection to the original wiring. Because of the additional components, this solution is slower, less responsive, more expensive and more difficult to install.
DV+ is more responsive, more cost-effective and easier to install. It does not cause unwanted pressure surges or “turbo flutter”, and does not require spring replacement or frequent rebuilding.
The DV+ story: better performance and greater reliability
Many newer European vehicles use diverter valves with electromagnetic control via the engine control unit. This design enables very fast response and opens the valve only when required.
VAG vehicles and other European cars generally use two types of electromagnetically controlled diverter valves, and both can develop certain weaknesses.
Common problem with original design no. 1
Diaphragms can split, especially when boost pressure and temperature increase as a result of a software upgrade.
Common problem with original design no. 2
Piston valves with a plastic piston can leak considerably more than normally expected. This is a result of their design and not necessarily wear, and they do not always close completely after a gear change at high boost pressure.
In both designs, the electromagnetic element is directly connected to the valve mechanism. This is not ideal, as the solenoid and return spring are not always powerful enough to open and close the valve reliably at high boost pressure.
DV+ retains the original electromagnetic element and therefore the advantages of the factory system, while replacing the valve components with durable metal components. This provides greater strength and reliability regardless of the boost pressure used.
Instead of directly operating the piston, the electromagnetic element in the DV+ system controls the air pressure that opens and closes the piston. The valve therefore operates reliably even at high boost pressure, without exceeding the capabilities of the original solenoid.
Pilot control also improves the operation of the original system, as the valve opens progressively according to boost pressure. It opens only as much as required, whereas the factory valve simply opens or closes and cannot open partially at lower pressure. The result is improved throttle response.
