This upgraded intercooler for VAG 1.4 TSI and 1.8tsi engines, including the Polo WRC, is a highlight of the HF-Series range. The high-quality HFT core provides excellent cooling performance, delivering strong performance even in unfavourable conditions while remaining highly robust. It offers high resistance and heats up less than comparable cores from other manufacturers. The entire system is also designed for optimum flow. This means minimal pressure drop, while the complete charge-air path was developed using CAD flow analyses. This also includes the end tanks, which are made from high-strength cast aluminium.

The advantages of this product are:

This product is therefore suitable for both standard power and motorsport applications, as substantially higher power outputs are also possible. Each intercooler was built for the relevant vehicle, calculated using flow simulations and tested on a dynamometer. It is fitted to the original mounting points of the original OEM intercooler, so no major modifications are required. Installation can also be carried out by customers with a well-equipped tool kit.

What exactly does an upgraded intercooler provide?

To express the exact power increase provided by an intercooler in figures, many unknown factors must be taken into account, such as factory power variation, other hardware modifications and the software used during measurement. This varies from vehicle to vehicle. As a rule of thumb for tuned engines, an increase of up to 5–10 % can be expected.

At least equally important is the fact that, whether the engine has already been optimised or is to remain standard in terms of software, you can prevent a loss of performance at high ambient temperatures, or even the activation of the temperature protection stored in many control units. This allows you to rely on the engine’s full performance at all times.

Recommendation

Use our HF-Series intercoolers in combination with hardware and software optimisation. By reducing back pressure, which relieves the turbocharger, and cooling the charge air, which increases the oxygen content in the combustion chamber and reduces thermal loading, this performance upgrade efficiently uses the potential of every turbocharged engine.

When working on the hardware or software tuning of your vehicle, the factor of “boost pressure loss” must not be overlooked. If vehicle power is increased through chip tuning, boost pressure is also increased in 99% of cases. When the standard intercooler is retained, boost pressure loss rises exponentially. This means that the turbocharger has to work even harder, increasing its thermal load and reducing its service life, or causing faster wear due to higher rotational speeds.
