Technical upgrade for maximum performance

The HG Motorsport high-performance ignition module provides increased spark energy and improved thermal stability for modern high-performance engines. In vehicles with increased power, the original ignition module can quickly reach its limits, often resulting in misfires, uneven combustion and thermal overload. The HG Motorsport module was specifically developed to handle these demands reliably. It delivers increased spark energy, improved thermal stability and consistently reliable performance, even under the most demanding conditions.

Note: This is a complete ignition module, not a single ignition coil. Only one ignition module is required per vehicle.

Technical features

  • Optimised primary and secondary structure: improved internal winding architecture and high-quality copper wire provide more efficient energy transfer and a stable high-voltage output.
  • Increased spark energy (+10% compared with OE): consistent supply to all cylinders throughout the entire dwell period, ideal for high-performance engines.
  • Consistent energy delivery under high load: particularly suitable for turbocharged and supercharged engines that require stable ignition voltage over longer periods.
  • Extended service life: high-quality insulation materials and optimised internal structures minimise thermal loads and protect against internal short circuits.
  • High thermal resistance: continuous operation up to 120°C and stable operation up to 140°C without loss of performance.
  • Optimised spark formation: stable ignition at high boost pressures and with richer mixtures, providing significantly improved combustion efficiency.

Spark energy comparison

The comparison shows the superior spark energy of the HG Motorsport ignition module against the standard module:

  • Up to 1.5 ms: comparable energy output.
  • From 2.0 ms: a marked energy drop occurs with the OE ignition module, while the HG Motorsport module remains constant.
  • At 3.0 ms: up to 25% more energy, which is crucial at high engine speeds.
  • Even at 140°C, the HG Motorsport module maintains stable spark energy of 70 mJ, while OE modules reach critical values or fail.

Ideal for

  • high-performance engines – optimum ignition under extreme conditions;
  • motorsport and track days – consistent energy during continuous operation;
  • everyday performance upgrades – cleaner combustion and improved efficiency;
  • replacing OE ignition modules – increased reliability and extended service life.

Internal structure and operation

The ignition module uses an optimised primary and secondary structure. The primary winding generates a strong magnetic field; when this field collapses, a high voltage is induced. Improved winding guidance and insulation ensure consistent spark energy, even at high engine speeds and during load peaks.

Thermal testing and long-term results

Continuous thermal load

The test involved continuous operation at 120°C with simulated load changes over 100 hours. The HG Motorsport ignition module showed no reduction in performance or thermal degradation. The OE ignition module lost approximately 25% of its energy after 50 hours.

Additional test at 140°C

  • HG Motorsport: stable operation for 8 hours without failures.
  • OE ignition module: performance loss of up to 40% after 4 hours.

Summary of laboratory data

  • Maximum spark energy: HG Motorsport 120 mJ; OE ignition module 90 mJ.
  • Continuous load at 120°C: HG Motorsport > 100 h; OE ignition module 50 h.
  • Functionality at 140°C: HG Motorsport stable for up to 8 h; OE ignition module performance loss after 4 h.
  • Insulation resistance at 500 V: HG Motorsport > 20 MΩ; OE ignition module approximately 10 MΩ.

The HG Motorsport ignition module offers stability, maximum spark energy and considerably greater durability than the OE unit. Only one module is required per vehicle.
