The Racingline diverter valve (VWR144001) is a direct replacement for the factory plastic valve used on numerous turbocharged engines from the Volkswagen Group. It is designed to provide more reliable boost pressure control, faster throttle response and long-lasting operation, including on modified engines.

How the diverter valve works

The diverter valve is fitted between the turbocharger and the throttle. When you lift off the accelerator, it releases the compressed air created by the turbocharger back into the intake system. This protects the turbocharger and ensures that boost pressure is ready for the next acceleration. If the valve leaks or fails, it can lead to a loss of boost pressure, poorer throttle response and reduced power.

Why replace the factory valve?

Many original VAG diverter valves have a plastic housing with a rubber diaphragm. Due to the temperature and pressure of a modern turbocharged engine, particularly with Stage 1 or Stage 2 modifications, the diaphragm can stretch, tear or fail. Common signs include:

• uneven or fluctuating boost pressure,
• slower throttle response and a soft feeling during acceleration,
• loss of power, often without any recorded faults,
• recurring failures shortly after replacement with an original valve.

The Racingline valve replaces the diaphragm system with a precisely machined aluminium housing and piston-based internal design. This construction reliably holds boost pressure even at higher pressures and temperatures.

Sound characteristics

Unlike some aftermarket blow-off valves, the Racingline diverter valve is designed to keep the noise level close to factory. When lifting off the throttle, the air is returned to the intake system as intended by the factory engine software.

Engine compatibility

The valve is intended for a wide range of VAG turbocharged engines:

• 2.0 TFSI and 2.0 TSI engines (EA113, EA888 Gen. 1, Gen. 3 and Gen. 3B), approximately from 2003 to 2020,
• 2.5 TFSI five-cylinder engines from 2009 onwards, as used in Audi RS3 and TT RS models,
• 4.0 TFSI V8 engines (EA824) from 2013–2018, as used in Audi RS6, RS7, S6, S7, S8 and Bentley models.

Important: 4.0 TFSI V8 engines require two diverter valves per vehicle, one for each turbocharger. For these engines, the correct quantity of valves must be ordered.

Installation

The Racingline diverter valve is a direct replacement that uses the original mounting points and original electrical connector. No changes to the engine software or ECU are required for installation. When refitting, check the condition of all hose clamps and seals, and allow the engine to cool before starting work.
