Racingline intercooler for EA888 Gen.4 – MQB Evo (VWR141000)
The Racingline Performance intercooler is a direct upgrade for the latest 2.0 TSI EA888 Gen.4 “Evo” engine, used on the MQB Evo platform. The factory intercooler is capable enough during normal driving, but during prolonged demanding driving or when combined with engine upgrades, it quickly reaches its performance limits. When intake air temperature (IAT) rises, the engine control unit reduces ignition timing and boost pressure to protect the engine, which consequently also reduces power. This intercooler is designed to control these temperatures more effectively.
Why the standard intercooler is not always enough
The main problem is heat saturation. During dynamic driving, on a race track or at any stage of modification, the standard intercooler cannot dissipate heat quickly enough. This results in inconsistent performance, especially during repeated acceleration in second and third gear. Racingline addresses this with a substantially larger core and an improved airflow path, providing more consistent power delivery instead of a strong first acceleration followed by a noticeable drop-off on subsequent runs.
Core design and airflow
The intercooler uses a “plate and bar” construction with a 70 mm deep core, increasing internal volume by approximately 96% compared with the standard intercooler. Taller internal tubes improve charge-air flow through the core, while the cast end tanks are shaped to distribute air evenly across the full depth of the cooler. This reduces turbulence and pressure drop.
The inlet and outlet connections are increased to 70 mm, compared with the standard 60 mm, making them better suited to the requirements of the Gen.4 engine, especially in modified vehicles.
Kit contents
- High-flow 70 mm deep “plate and bar” intercooler core with cast end tanks
- Pair of reinforced multi-layer silicone boost hoses with internal wire reinforcement
- Four stainless steel Mikalor hose clamps
The kit contains everything required for a clean and complete installation. No additional couplers, brackets or fitting hardware are required.
Realistic expectations
On a standard vehicle, a single dyno measurement may not show a major change in peak power, but repeated measurements and longer drives will reveal considerably more consistent performance. On a modified vehicle, from Stage 1 onwards, the benefit is even more pronounced, as the larger core better supports the additional airflow and heat generated by the modifications. The intercooler therefore helps protect the engine and use the performance of the software upgrade more effectively.
Compatibility
The product is designed for 2.0 TSI EA888 Gen.4 engines on the MQB Evo platform, used in models from Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT/Cupra and Škoda.
