Racingline oil catch can – Audi S4/S5 B9 3.0 TFSI V6T EA839

The Racingline oil catch can is a direct upgrade for the supercharged 3.0 TFSI EA839 engine used in the Audi S4 and S5 (B9). The system captures oil vapour and moisture that would otherwise return to the intake system, helping to keep the intercooler, intake hoses and intake manifold clean over the long term.

In modern direct-injection engines such as the EA839, fuel no longer washes the back of the intake valves. Oil vapour travelling through the engine ventilation system (PCV) therefore gradually coats the intake system with sticky deposits. This can reduce airflow and affect engine performance. A high-quality oil catch can is an effective preventative upgrade.

System operation

This is a complete replacement for the PCV system, not merely an additional canister. The factory plastic PCV assembly, which contains a check valve known to fail, is removed and replaced with a billet aluminium breather plate and a CNC-machined oil filler cap. The oil vapour then passes through two internal baffled separators into a triple-baffle oil catch can, where moisture and oil are separated before the cleaned air returns to the intake system.

Construction and finish

The oil catch can is machined from extruded aluminium and finished with Racingline’s distinctive “Liquid Titanium” anodised coating. The pressed aluminium brackets securely mount the can to the rear of the engine and include a mounting point to retain the factory engine cover, making the installation look like part of the original equipment.

• Replacement PCV breather plate with aluminium oil filler cap
• 2 × internal baffled separators
• Baffled oil catch can with dipstick
• 2 × oil catch can brackets
• 2 × -6AN hoses from the separators to the can
• Norma return breather hose from the can to the intake system
• Fitting kit with all required bolts and sealing O-rings

Maintenance

The oil catch can is only effective if it is emptied regularly. Check the level with the integrated dipstick at every service interval, or more frequently during demanding driving, and empty the can as required.
