Racingline Stage 3 IS38 hybrid turbocharger for 2.0 TSI engines

If you want to extract supercar-level performance from your 2.0 TSI MQB-powered vehicle, the Racingline Stage 3 IS38 Hybrid Turbo is a complete solution. It is a thoroughly upgraded IS38 turbocharger combined with specially tailored Racingline OEM+ Performance Software. The system is calibrated for up to 480 bhp on vehicles with IS38, or approximately 450 bhp on vehicles with the smaller IS20 turbocharger, such as the Golf 7 GTI.

Peak figures of over 500 bhp were achieved during dynamic testing, but the kit is deliberately calibrated slightly more conservatively to ensure long-term reliability and repeatability. In a vehicle with 4MOTION and a DSG gearbox, acceleration from 0 to 60 mph or 0–100 km/h takes approximately 3 seconds, while the quarter-mile time is in the low 11s or high 10s.

Why the Stage 3 IS38 Hybrid stands out

Instead of fitting a fully aftermarket turbocharger with adapters, brackets and custom pipework, the original housing of the factory IHI IS38 turbocharger is used as the basis. The internals are fully upgraded for increased airflow. This makes installation simpler and more cost-effective, as the original oil and coolant lines, seals and mounting points are retained.

Each turbocharger is manufactured and balanced in the United Kingdom and tested on a Vane Flow Test Rig at speeds exceeding its maximum operating range.

Road behaviour

The Stage 3 kit is designed to work like a factory upgrade rather than an unwieldy competition conversion. Throttle response is quick, power delivery is linear and the vehicle remains suitable for everyday driving.

As this is a complete direct-fit solution, the turbocharger, software and calibration have been developed together. This ensures predictable operation of the entire system.

Exchange programme

The product is supplied as part of an exchange programme. Your original IS38 or IS20 turbocharger serves as the basis for the Stage 3 unit. The original turbocharger must be in a condition suitable for rebuilding. Check the exchange programme terms and procedure before ordering.
