The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads due to driving conditions. This is especially pronounced when the body weight is transferred during fast cornering, hard braking or intense acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes significant twisting and bending of the chassis or body, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
