A vehicle’s body is subjected to significant loads while driving, particularly due to weight transfer during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause forces on one side of the vehicle to be up to three times greater than on the other. This causes the body to twist and deform, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis twisting and deformation when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
