A car’s chassis is the part exposed to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of the body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or sudden acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. The result is significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
